Last weekend the new ‘Verbier Express’ train service started, linking Geneva to Verbier with direct trains, instead of changing at Martigny.

The service is aimed at day-trippers from the Swiss city and will run at weekends and certain public holidays.

90% of visitors to Verbier arrive by car

Verbier is hoping to encourage more skiers to take the train rather than drive. Currently 90% of day visitors arrive by car.

In particular, they hope the new train service will appeal to more environmentally-inclined younger skiers.

Discounted Lift Pass

The direct service from Geneva to Le Châble – from where it’s possible to take a cable car into Verbier – means Genevois can reach the Valais resort without changing trains. The Le Châble station was upgraded in January 2019.

‘Verbier Express’ travellers also qualify for a reduced-price one-day ski pass.

Timetable

The train will depart Geneva at 7.20am, taking just over two hours to arrive at Le Chable at 9.39am. The return train will leave at 4.55pm, arriving back in Geneva at 7.10pm.

The SBB website does state that skiers should travel in the rear coaches of the train as the train separates at Martigny
