I love the work by the Swiss organisation Association Suisse pour la Protection du Climat.
Their current campaign is lobbying for a new tax on airline tickets and using those proceeds to provide residents with a CHF100 voucher for public transport, as well as creating a fund to improve rail connections and a focus on night trains.
The system is based on the concept of ‘the polluter pays’ i.e. those who fly frequently and generate significant emissions should pay more.
It would mean that only the top 10% of polluters would end up paying more, while over 90% of the population would receive more money back than they pay in taxes.
