In which case, a free screening of ‘The People’s Emergency Briefing’, organised by Protect Our Winters UK, is an event you will find worth attending.
Taking place on Wednesday 25 November, the event will bring together people from across the outdoor industry and community for an evening focused on understanding the changes taking place around us – and what we can do about them.
The 50-minute film, presented by Chris Packham, brings together leading UK experts to explain the climate and nature crisis and its implications for everyday life.
Topics covered include health, food systems, the economy, national security and the future of our way of life.
Screening followed by panel discussion
For those of us involved in outdoor sports, these issues are already significant. For skiers and snowboarders, shorter and less reliable winters are the new reality.
Following the London screening, there will be a 30-minute panel discussion featuring representatives from POW UK and the Outdoor Industries Association, together with outdoor athletes and members of the wider climate community.
For Ski Flight Free, the connection is clear: how we travel to the mountains is one part of the wider challenge, but the future of the places we travel to depends on addressing climate change at a much bigger level.
The event takes place at the Royal Geographical Society in London on Wednesday 25 November. Doors open at 6.30pm, with the film starting at 7pm, followed by the panel discussion. Tickets are free and can be reserved here.
