I’ve covered Montagne Verte on Ski Flight Free before. This Morzine-based organisation has been doing some great work in the community on sustainability.
In 2022 they launched the ‘AlpinExpress Pass’, giving holidaymakers travelling by train discounts on ski passes, accommodation, transfers, ski hire, ski and snowboard lessons, restaurants and more across Morzine, Avoriaz, Les Gets and the Vallée d’Aulps.
Incentivising train travel
The goal was to reduce the carbon emissions of ski holidays by incentivising people to travel by train, but the total savings from the pass mean that a train ticket is not just low carbon, but makes it a cheaper way to travel to the Alps.
New Train Travel Guides
To make train travel simpler and to answer some of the questions that people have, Montagne Verte have now created some superb train travel guides on their website.
Al Judge, president of Montagne Verte, explained the reasoning:
“We created these guides as lots of skiers are put off using the train because it seems complicated. People worry about anything from whether they’ll find a toilet to how to get from the station to the resort. These guides help with everything from crossing Paris or Lyon, to getting up to the resorts.”
The guides are incredibly detailed and include photos to help you find your way, and information such as where to find toilets, what food options are available, and how to reserve buses to resort, or if cash is needed to pay for them.
Cut your emissions travelling by train
Between 50-75% of the emissions from a ski holiday come from travel to resort so choosing the train over a plane or private car is the biggest single impact anyone can do to reduce the impact of their trip.
