This is a great new campaign by Protect Our Winters – highlighting 2025’s status as ‘International Year Of Glacier Preservation’

Glaciers are vital to the Earth’s water cycle, storing 75% of the world’s freshwater. By 2100, glaciers worldwide are projected to lose between 20% and 50% of their mass, profoundly affecting water availability and biodiversity.

This is something that I’ve covered several times on The Ski Podcast, most recently in Episode 240 when we looked at the changes caused by global warming to the Mer de Glace in Chamonix

International Year Of Glacier Preservation’

Recognising the importance of glaciers, the United Nations officially declared 2025 as the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation. Changes such as glacier melt, shrinking snowpack, and extreme weather events impact all of us.

Protect Our Winter’s DOWNSTREAM documentary seeks to make this knowledge accessible to the widest possible audience. You can find out more about POW’s lobbying on this issue here.
