Les Arcs already has an excellent reputation for sustainability. Ski Flight Free founder Iain Martin visited in December 2019 to check out the new 100% electric funicular that takes skiers direct from Bourg St Maurice to Les Arcs 1600.

100% Renewable Electricity
During that visit he also found out about the resort’s 100% renewable electricity that all the lifts in resort are powered with. You can listen to his interview with Laura Cumin from the Les Arcs lift company in Episode 47 of The Ski Podcast:
Solar Panels
The resort is also generating its own solar power thanks to photovoltaic panels on the Aiguille Rouge cable car and has been experimenting with hydroelectric power created from water used for their snow cannons.
The Grand Jury – have your say
There is plenty of ‘greenwash’ out there in the ski industry, but in our opinion, Les Arcs is certainly one of the genuine believers in sustainability.
This is only reiterated by its current campaign ‘The Grand Jury’ – an invitation for holiday makers to give their own opinion and ideas on what the resort should be doing.
If you have any views you’d like to share or suggest for the resort, then complete the form and you could be contributing to even more sustainability in Les Arcs as it bids for ‘Flocon Vert’ status later this year.
