The landslide in the Maurienne valley in August that moved 10,000 m3 of rock means that the Paris-Milan rail route remains blocked. However, skiers looking for train routes to the French Alps can still use Trenitalia this winter.
Paris to Lyon and Chambéry
From December 10, Trenitalia will offer five trains a day from Paris to Lyon, with additional Saturday services to Chambéry through to 21 April 2024.
Tickets from €27 each way
Note that these services are in competition with services from SNCF, so you won’t find them on sale at Connect SNCF, only at Trenitalia.com. However, it can be worth searching them out as they are available for as little as EUR27 each way.
The full journey through to Italy is not expected to resume until the latter half of 2024.
