Since I founded Ski Flight Free in 2019, I have cut down on my flights considerably in an effort to reduce my carbon footprint.
Flight Free in 2024 and 2025
For the last two years, I have gone slightly further committed to the ‘Flight Free Challenge’ – created by Anna Hughes of Flight Free UK – of taking no flights at all.
Evidently ‘long haul’ travel isn’t an option, but in this time, I’ve been as far as Sicily and Greece (using Interrail passes that also included visits to Bologna, Rome, Milan and Turin), Spain and Portugal (via ferry), as well as French, Italian, Swiss and Austrian ski resorts.
I have to confess that I did take one flight in 2025, from Innsbruck to Gatwick in December. I did have the good excuse that it was under medical advice, as I’d just fractured my scapula!

Flight Free in 2026
Broken bones notwithstanding, I am taking the Flight Free pledge again for 2026.
I’ve already travelled to Nice (on the night train from Paris) and Isola 2000 and twice to Les 3 Vallées – all by train.
Coming up, I have another trip to the French Tarentaise in March by train, plus I’ll be driving to Chamonix in an EV later that month. I have two more trips via ferry to Spain in June and July, plus an extended trip to Spain and Portugal, again via the Portsmouth-Bilbao ferry in October.
