Four French ski areas have been recognised for their ongoing commitment to sustainability by being awarded a second ‘Flocon Vert’ (‘Green Snowflake’).

The newly upgraded resorts are Les Belleville (Les Menuires/St Martin/Val Thorens) and Valloire in Savoie, together with Les Angles and Font-Romeu in the Pyrenees. The second snowflake recognises resorts that have continued to improve their environmental performance through long-term projects and investment.

Meanwhile, Saint-Gervais and Châtel in Haute-Savoie have successfully renewed their Flocon Vert certification. The awards highlighted their work on areas including sustainable transport and supporting traditional mountain farming.

The Flocon Vert scheme is organised by Mountain Riders in France. It now includes 31 accredited mountain destinations across France, with 17 of them holding the two-snowflake rating.

Resorts can progress through three levels of certification, reflecting whether they are beginning their sustainability journey, moving towards best practice, or achieving exemplary environmental standards.

As more ski resorts look to reduce their environmental impact, schemes such as the Flocon Vert provide an independent way of recognising those making meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future.
