New night train start up, Berlin-based Nox Mobility, has secured €2 million in funding that will help bring it to market.
Nox Mobility was founded in 2025 by Thibault Constant, Janek Smalla, and Artur Hasselbach. Thibault has spent years following night trains in Europe, and built a community of 600,000 like-minded people.

Night train services down by over 60%
Between 2001 and 2019, the total number of night trains in Europe declined from around 1,200 services per week to roughly 450. Nox aims to redress that balance.
“Night trains are one of Europe’s last big untapped mobility opportunities. The infrastructure already exists and the market is waiting,” said co-founder Artur Hasselbach.
Morning tracks slots are essential
Nox plans to combine reliability with premium hospitality in an experience inspired by boutique hotels. Leisure travellers can save on an extra night in a hotel, while business travellers – 30% of night train users in France – can avoid early morning departures and lost working time.
According to Thibault, the primary challenge is not creating the rolling stock, but getting access to the tracks. Research shows that arrival times need to be before 09:00 and these slots can be difficult to secure, but the company is confident it can line up all the logistics for a launch next year.
